Elementary and Middle School classes consist of approximately 12-15 students per teacher. Pre-K classes have lower class ratios.
Our talented RCA staff are born-again believers who meet MSDE requirements for church-exempt schools. They bring a variety of experience and skills to the team from their respective fields and degrees. From Child Care Certificates to Doctoral Degrees, our team is comprised of passionate educators, who are continual learners, always seeking to sharpen their skill set with the most effective, research-based best practices.
Rock Church Academy uses “Abeka” as our main curriculum for Pre-K. Since our Pre-K program is full day, the curriculum is enhanced with play-based learning, special units and themes throughout the school year.
Grades K5-5 use a combination of Abeka for Language Arts, Social Studies, and Science. SAVVAS Realize is used for our Mathematics curriculum because SAVVAS has a strong foundation in problem-solving and building reasoning skills. All curriculums have a variety of tools and resources for review and at-home practice. Curriculums are enhanced with technology, hands-on manipulatives, and student-led learning opportunities.
Our middle school and high school scholars use Purposeful Design for ELA. Abeka is used for Science and Social Studies and SAVVAS Realize curriculum is used for mathematics.
Middle and high school scholars participate in a variety of electives during the school year, including Foreign Languages, Art, Media, Gym, Theater, Bible, Life Skills, Finance, Socio-emotional Learning (SEL), Business & Entrepreneurship, and weekly study hall.
Scholars are taught self-discipline, ownership, accountability, personal organization skills, leadership skills, civic responsibility, and community service. Scholars in high school receive support and guidance to purse higher-learning opportunities after completing high school.
RCA Scholars may apply to attend Cromwell Christian College, a one-year Gap Program for career and ministry preparation.
Rock Church Academy is located on a private, 34-acre campus shared with several non-profit organizations.
Multiple cameras are stationed throughout the campus to assist our plain-clothed Emergency Response Team Members with campus monitoring. RCA parents are requested to display RCA car magnets and dash cards to help staff easily identify them. Parents and guests are required to display identification until they are known to staff to pick up their scholar.
Doors remain locked throughout the school day. Parents and guests must be buzzed into the building through our video monitoring system for building access. Emergency Drills are practiced on a routine basis. Parents may opt into a messaging system to communicate with staff and receive school news, weather alerts, urgent messages and updates.
Several staff are CPR & First Aid Certified. We also haveCertified Medication Technicians on site.
Rock Church Academy is part of the MIAC Sports League, which enables our school to compete against other non-public schools in Maryland.
Scholars in grades 5-12 may participate in seasonal, competitive sports, including volleyball, basketball, soccer, track & field, cross country, flag football and more!
Participation in competitive sports requires a sports physical and an additional athletic fee per sport. Depending on the sport, additional equipment and/or uniforms may also be required for each athlete.
RCA Scholar Athletes are expected to have honorable conduct both at school and in the community. They are also responsible for maintaining passing grades to participate.
Parents of Scholar Athletes are expected to serve by assisting with fundraising or serving at games.
Parents are expected and encouraged to be involved in their scholar's academic journey at RCA.
Parents who have successfully passed a criminal background screening and completed volunteer training may volunteer in various areas throughout the school during the school day. Rock Church Academy has the "RCA PEP TEAM," which stands for "Parents- Engagement- Partnerships." This team has various sub-committees where parents can use their gifts and talents to support school events and student academic initiatives.
Students wear uniforms daily. Our Rock Church Academy Uniform consists of a light-blue top, bearing the Rock Church Academy Crest, and navy blue bottoms (modest shorts, pants, skirt, skort, or jumper). Leggings may not be worn as pants. They may be worn under skirts or shorts during the winter months.
Scholars in Pre-K2 through Pre-K4 may wear navy bottoms, and navy-colored shirts instead of light blue.
Scholars in grades 6th-12th may wear white or cobalt blue shirts and navy bottoms or clear blue plaid skirts/jumpers (female scholars).
Uniforms can be purchased from Lands End or French Toast.
We also utilize two local companies who can add our logo to existing shirts or clothing items you may purchase elsewhere!
"Shifflet & Horn" (Dundalk)
"Top Stitch Embroidery" (Parkville)
School Spirit Wear for scholars, staff, and parents can be purchased at Squad Locker!
All scholars will be provided with one PE Shirt. Additional shirts can be ordered for $15 through the office.
RCA offers school lunch for an additional fee. All meals are prepared fresh on-site by our school chef.
Students are welcome to bring their snacks and lunch daily. We are a nut-free facility, so students should avoid bringing peanut butter or food products containing nuts.
Our Pre-K students will be offered a morning snack and beverage daily. All other grades should bring their snack from home. All students should bring a refillable water bottle.
RCA offers a variety of technology for teacher instruction and student use. Most classrooms have Viewboards, Chromebook Carts, Chrome Cast, and access to an iPad Cart for enhancing instruction. We also have a full recording studio where teachers and scholars can record both audio and video clips.
Scholars receive instruction regarding safe and acceptable technology use. A separate WiFi network has been established for teacher and scholar use. This helps ensure that there are a variety of protective layers to block inappropriate content from scholars' view.
Scholars will complete a routine schedule of curriculum-based quizzes and tests throughout the school year. Diagnostic assessments may be administered throughout the school year to determine guided reading levels or areas where additional enrichment or support are needed. When needed, a student support team will meet to determine a plan of enrichment or intervention.
Select grade levels will take the Iowa Basic Skills Test each spring. Hich School Scholars will take the American College Test (ACT) or the Scholastic Achievement Test (SAT) during their junior year and at least once during their senior year.
